I’ve met a bunch of really cool people during the last month of blogging, and recently I was given the opportunity to participate in a series of articles by Sharalyn Hartwell highlighting the things GenY is thankful for, since we’re so often viewed as the generation that doesn’t appreciate what’s right around them. My submission (and also the first use of my pen name – for those who actually know me, let me know what ya think about it) was featured in yesterday’s article .
Here’s just a couple (of the many) things I’m thankful for:
I’m thankful our only entertainment was a CD player on road trips during my youth; I’m a much better person for knowing the words to Bob Seger and Paul Simon songs.I’m thankful my dad taught me that it is truly entertaining to squeak your shoes in stores after escaping the rain.

And a few I didn’t mention in the article:
- My parents were willing to drive non-stop on Saturdays to make sure I had attended every hot-shot contest in the county.
- My college professor talked me into taking the leap and signing up for my first student loans in exchange for an irreplaceable summer study abroad session at Oxford.
- My brother is so lenient with my “Move to Ft. Lauderdale” loan repayment schedule. Who wants to go to happy hourrrr?
*My next post, “Thursday Evenings with Jared and Delilah” will be less “give me a huggg” more “really, you did that?”
** I mean “grammar freak” in the best way possible. It’s truly a compliment in the copywriting world.
Wow, you had CDs? We just had cassette tapes. Oh, loved those cassette tapes (except when the parrot got his beak into them…..)
Jenny, I had no idea that wasn’t your real name! haha That’s hilarious. I LOVED the sincerity of your thoughts. And, they were truly thought-provoking. It made me think of little things…like I’m glad we never had more than 3 TV channels until I was a freshman in high school or a VCR until I was 9. I read and played outside–things I don’t see kids now doing enough. Anyway, I digress….Thank you so much for your participation. I’m thrilled we’ve connected. Keep in touch, please!
@Barbara -Thinking back.. it was probably a cassette to CD converter tape that we put into our tape player.. good call!
@Sharalyn.. That’s funny! Yah.. I saw “Jenny Mick” on the schedule and thought, “Hmm.. the pen name looks okay.. let’s give it a try..” Thanks so much again.. I’ll definitely be in touch on the ol’ Twitter!
